Planning a pink and black graduation party for your senior girl and want it to feel completely and entirely hers — not just pretty, but personal? This graduation party for Sawyer is exactly the kind of celebration I love to create — one where every single detail reflects the person being celebrated.
When my best friend asked me to throw her daughter Sawyer’s graduation party, I knew immediately it needed to go beyond the standard balloons and cake. Sawyer is an avid reader, a lover of all things pink and black, and the kind of girl who deserves a celebration that actually reflects who she is.

So thats exactly what we built. A pink and black graduation party with black bow details throughout, a DIY floral arch backdrop, a candy bar, oversized 2026 marquee numbers, personalized signage, and a memory box craft activity that had every girl completely hooked.
I shopped at Oriental Trading for this project and you’ll find my full shopping list HERE. Their graduation supplies, personalized ribbon, and signage made every detail feel intentional and completely Sawyer’s.
Here is how we put it all together, from start to finish.

The Floral Arch Backdrop and Celebration Area
A Dedicated Area
One of the main focal points of this pink and black graduation party was a dedicated photo and celebration area anchored by a stunning DIY floral arch backdrop. This was the space for the cake cutting, the celebratory cheers, and the graduation party photos — a beautifully styled corner that felt entirely separate from the candy bar and craft table setup on the other side of the room.
DIY Floral Arch
At the center of this area I built a DIY floral arch backdrop — a metal arch frame covered edge to edge in pink faux florals, with Sawyer’s personalized graduation sign zip tied dead center. I used plastic grid panels attached to the arch with zip ties. I cut the top panels to follow the curve of the frame. Then I layered florals securely into the panels. The trick is weaving each stem through one grid square and looping it back through the next. As a result it locks in place completely. Once they’re in, they stay in – no exceptions.
The Perfect Pair
To complete the backdrop, I paired the floral arch with a second larger 4ft x 7ft arch. I draped a pink bow-themed fabric backdrop over it the arch. Then I secured it in place along the back of the frame using a staple gun. This is quick and invisible from the front. It is also completely secure for the whole event. The pink bow fabric on the larger arch tied in with the bow detail running throughout the whole party. Bringing it directly into this space.

Together the paired arches were the perfect backdrop for the cake cutting and celebratory cheers moments. Even better, they created a photo spot that every guest wanted to stand in front of — which is exactly the goal for any statement backdrop at a graduation party.

The best thing about the DIY floral arch is that its completely reusable — swap the sign and the florals for any future celebration and you have a brand new backdrop for a bridal shower, a birthday, or next years graduation season.

The 2026 Marquee Numbers
Moving into the candy bar and craft area, the first statement piece that set the tone was a pair of oversized illuminated 2026 marquee number standups. These anchored the space on either side and instantly made the whole area feel like a real celebration moment.
These are lightweight, easy to position, and they look far more substantial than they actually are. They look like illuminated letters in photos but are lightweight cardboard — which is exactly what makes them so easy to style with. Also, they’re versatile enough to use at any graduation party regardless of color scheme. If you want one statement piece that does the heavy lifting on atmosphere, this is it.

Want to see just how lightweight and easy these are to work with? Here’s the reel — and as you’ll see, they look far more substantial than they actually are, which makes them one of the best value statement pieces you can add to any graduation party setup.

The Statement Backdrop
On the other side of the room from the floral arch photo area, was the candy bar and a craft table. This area had it’s own statement backdrop that was equally show-stopping.
A large pink Congrats Grad sign was framed by pink balloon columns with black ribbon tails and black bows. Above it, more pink balloons hanging from the ceiling with black ribbon tails hanging down. These skim the signage perfectly. Each is finished with a bow at the top. That ceiling detail is what took the backdrop from pretty to genuinely show-stopping. The effect is a complete frame around the sign — balloon columns rising up on either side, ceiling balloons cascading ribbon tails down from above — that frames the whole space without needing a traditional balloon arch or expensive hired backdrop.
Bows have become one of the most sought-after details in party decor — and it’s easy to see why. They add instant elegance and a slight edge to what could otherwise be an entirely soft, sweet pink setup. Here they worked on multiple levels: as the finishing detail on the ceiling ribbon tails, on the balloon columns framing the sign, and as the thread that connected this backdrop through to every other element in both spaces.
Additionally, this backdrop photographs beautifully from every angle because the eye is drawn upward by the ceiling balloons and then back down to the sign at the center — a natural visual flow that makes every photo taken in this area look considered and styled.

The Graduation Party Candy Bar
In front of the statement backdrop sat the graduation party candy bar — styled to match the pink and black theme down to the last detail. I kept the candy selection pink throughout — displayed in clear vessels at varying heights to create visual interest. Additional items like cupcakes were served on white platters and chocolate roses in a black vase, the layered heights making it feel abundant without being cluttered.
Additionally, the black bows are what made it feel elevated rather than generic. As a result, making every element feel intentional and completely Sawyer’s

The Memory Box Craft Activity
Alongside the candy bar, the craft table was set up for the girls to decorate and personalize their own senior year memory boxes to keep. Sawyer is an avid reader, so I chose beautiful book-themed boxes for this graduation party craft activity — each one wrapped in personalized ribbon and placed at their craft station ready to be unwrapped.

The key to making a craft station run smoothly is pre-organizing everything before the girls sit down. At the center of the table I had pink crates filled with letter and number stickers, stamps and inks, and card stock and papers. Each girl also had her own acrylic tray lined with a pink grad napkin — stocked with glue, scissors, pens and double sided tape — so she had everything she needed right in front of her.

The result? Five completely unique memory boxes – each one, as a result, a perfect reflection of the girl who made it. Above all, watching them compare their finished boxes was one of my favorite moments of the whole party.

The Personalized Details
The details are what take a pink and black graduation party from pretty to unforgettable. Throughout both spaces I used personalized details to make every element feel specific to Sawyer. Ribbon tied onto the memory boxes at each craft setting, napkins at the cake and craft tables, and signage that appeared across multiple areas of the party.

The Finishing Touches
The pink and black color palette was carried through every single element and across both spaces. When a color story is this consistent the whole party feels considered and styled rather than assembled.

The Graduation Detail
The graduation theme was layered in just as deliberately. Grad cap toppers on the champagne glasses and graduation-themed straws in the cups. Small grad details throughout meant that every time a guest looked closely, the occasion was right there.
It’s those small touches that make a celebration feel like it was truly thought through from every angle.

One of my favorite details of the whole party was the simplest one. Pink ring pops worn as graduation “rings” — because what better way to celebrate finally getting your ring than with a candy one? The pink color tied them perfectly into the pink and black theme, and the girls wore them on their fingers throughout the party. The photos are absolutely priceless. Additionally, it gave every guest an instant party prop without any effort on the styling side.

The Black Bow Detail — The Thread That Ties It All Together
Bows have become one of the most sought-after details in party decor — and this party shows exactly why. Throughout both spaces I used a black bow detail that at every scale — on the ceiling balloon ribbon tails, and the larger balloons framing the Congrats Grad sign.
Bows have become one of the most sought-after details in party decor — and this party shows exactly why. Throughout both spaces I used a black bow details at every scale. On the ceiling balloon ribbon tails. Then also directly onto the larger balloons framing the Congrats Grad sign.

Then again, the same detail carried through to the candy bar and craft table: tied onto candy vessels, glasses, bottles and placed on the pink crates and craft supply cups.

As a result, every area of the party felt connected without being identical — which is exactly what a cohesive theme and story should do.

Can I recreate this party in a different color scheme?
Absolutely — the structure of this party works in any color palette. Swap the pink and black for your grad’s school colors, favorite colors, or any palette that reflects her personality. The graduation tableware range I used comes in an assortment of different colors. Furthermore, the two-space layout — a photo area and a candy and activity area — works for any graduation party regardless of theme.
Where can I buy the personalized details?
I used Oriental Trading for the custom ribbon, personalized napkins and signage throughout this party. You’ll find their full graduation range HERE.
How far in advance should I plan a graduation party?
Ideally 4-6 weeks out gives you enough time to order personalized items (which can take 1-2 weeks to arrive). In addition to sourcing florals, and building any DIY elements without rushing. The floral arch took me two sessions of approximately 2 hours each — factor that in if you’re making it yourself.
Can the craft activity work for a smaller group?
Yes — the memory box craft station works for any group size. Simply scale the number of boxes and the amount of supplies accordingly. As a result, the activity is just as impactful for two or three girls as it is for a larger party
