NATALIE MAYHEW

CREATIVE DIRECTOR & FOUNDER OF FERN AND MAPLE

As the creative director of Fern & Maple, Natalie brings her expansive vision and imagination to events for both adults and children – or as she likes to put it, creating parties for “for bigs and littles alike.”

Born in Wellington, New Zealand, Natalie has ventured far from her Kiwi roots, but remains inspired by childhood memories of acting as an event stylist for her mum’s elaborate get-togethers and hours spent rummaging through antique sales and up-cycling found objects with her dad.

A 15-year career in international finance took Natalie from the shores of the Southwest Pacific through Asia, Europe, and America. Her extensive travels immersed her in a world of varied sights, sounds and textures, all of which influence her creativity. With a head for business, Natalie’s heart nonetheless lured her back to entertaining, lending a world of experience to her life-long passion.

Natalie’s first client was her son, Harrison, whose love of super heroes inspired her to create an alternate reality for his third birthday. The immersive environment, replete with cartoon cutouts and a child-sized cityscape, scaled for the 3-foot-tall guests, allowed each little boy and girl to feel like a hero for the day. The scene was met with awe and happiness by parents and kids alike who lost themselves in the world of make-believe.

Quickly recognized as the go-to source for party and event styling, Natalie soon found herself styling other children’s parties, then adult birthdays, holiday gatherings, weddings and eventually corporate events.

Natalie brings extensive planning, organizational and relationship management experience to her business from her years in Finance.  She now offers full service event planning, party and brand styling for corporates, adults and children, including creating all of the standard and custom children’s theme parties for Peek-a-boo Factory in San Francisco.  With Fern & Maple, Natalie is now bringing her life-long dream to life by making others’ dreams come true with beautifully designed and exquisitely detailed events.

Natalie’s blog also reflects her unique style, the life of a busy mom and party stylist, and showcases her own DIYs, vintage finds and party inspiration.  Natalie’s has worked with companies such as Sephora and Jelly Belly and welcomes opportunities to work with great companies that fit her brand.  Her work has been featured in Everyday Party Magazine and top party websites such as Kara’s Party Ideas and Catch My Party.
