Have you watched Wonder Woman 1984 yet? My daughter Parker and I couldn’t wait to get another dose of that fierce girl power, and we watched as soon as it came out! I love that Wonder Woman can represent a strong female figure for my daughter, and when I saw how much she loved the movie, I knew she would love a Wonder Woman 1984 themed party for her birthday coming up! Plus – I am so digging the retro look, and can totally work with those vibrant colors of the 80s!
The party I styled is perfect for a birthday party, but could also definitely work for a fun movie-watching party if you haven’t seen it yet (or if, like us, you want to watch again!). Read on to see how I set it all up!
How to Throw a Wonder Woman Themed Kid’s Party
DIY Backdrop
The first thing I did was create an eye catching Wonder Woman Inspired Backdrop. This is a really easy yet high-impact DIY project. I used brightly colored masking tape to create the Wonder Woman logo in 80s style, and surrounded it with gold star wall decals. The peel and stick (and easily removable!) wall decals are such a cheap and easy decor option – but you could also use a vinyl cutting machine to cut out stars from removable adhesive gold vinyl to achieve the same look!
Then, on either side of the backdrop I placed some clear balloons with printed stars on them, and decorated with glamorous gold tassels I repurposed from a GlamFete tassel garland.
This DIY backdrop is perfect for photo ops with fierce Wonder Woman poses!
Table Settings
I used yards of fabric for my table covers – blue with white stars (a nod to Wonder Woman’s traditional costume!) on the cake table, and white with gold stars for the main table, to make the colorful place settings pop. I set the Wonder Woman logo cake on a bright pink cake stand and added some starry cake toppers and candles, and a “lasso of truth” I created with yellow leather cording.
On the main table, I set out some wooden star decorations that I painted blue and pink as a centerpiece.
Next, I added some cupcakes with more star cake toppers and candles on either side. I placed these in starry blue cups I cut to size from paper drinking cups to match the cake table cover, and set them on pink star plates.
Finally, I spread a few glittery gold and blue star decorations in the center of the table for some extra sparkle and glam.
Place Settings
For my place settings, I used colorful star confetti plates and napkins. I used different colored napkins with each plate to mix it all up and create a look of coordinating vibrancy throughout. I completed the place settings with bright pink plastic utensils and the the blue and silver star cups. For the perfect final Wonder Woman touch- I added a yellow cord Lasso of Truth draped over each cup.
I am always all for characters that inspire my kids and make them feel powerful – who is that for your kids? I’d love to hear in the comments.
