Space is one of those themes that kids of all ages will have a blast with. Recently I styled a really fun Outer Space Themed Kids Party that had an Out of This World Craft Area! I’ve compiled a list of the crafts I provided for my space party here, and added a few from some of my fabulous friends as well. There’s also a couple options for craft kits if you want an even simpler ready-made option!
P.S. Be sure to check out the Space Party post for details on how I set the whole party up, and don’t forget to get the instructions for an easy DIY Rocket Ship Backdrop!
Mini Planet Ornaments
Provide some clear plastic fillable ornaments and some paint. Let kids pour some paint in, close the two sides, and roll, shake, and swirl the paint around until they are happy with the results! Open the two halves and let them dry before putting back together, and voila – a swirly planet! If you want to add some “rings” to the planet, glue a foam circle in between each half.
Another option for this is to use glue and glitter for a gorgeous shiny effect!
Celestial Snow Globes
Create celestial snow globes by getting easily fillable plastic snow globes and following these instructions. I found mine at Dollar General but you can get some on Amazon if needed. You could also recycle old jars for this, just make sure they seal well (you’ll probably want to tape them shut in the end, just in case!)
Egg Aliens
You can use any plastic eggs for this – but I used these two-toned metallic ones because they have such a good space-y vibe. This craft is as easy as providing the eggs, glue, and all sorts of craft supplies – pipe cleaners, pom poms, googly eyes, stickers – and letting kids’ creativity go wild!
Cardboard Roll Rocket Ships
Another great recycled material craft, these cardboard rocket ships can be made with empty toilet paper rolls! I’m all about recycling, but if you aren’t able to save these up in advance, you can always purchase some. Then, use the top of a plastic egg for the nose of the rocket, clothespins for the wings, and decorate away!
Marshmallow Constellations
This awesome activity from Jordan’s Easy Entertaining serves double duty as a craft AND a snack! She explains how to use pretzels and mini marshmallows to create fun marshmallow contellations. Get details HERE.
Galaxy Slime
If you have kids, chances are you’ve had some experience with the slime trend. It seems kids just can’t get enough! This Galaxy Slime recipe from Parties with a Cause looks incredible, and doesn’t use borax. Get the recipe HERE.
Galaxy Dough
If slime is just too…well…slimy….for you, Joy in the Commonplace shares her experience with this Galaxy Dough. Bonus: She has tons more tips for throwing a Space Party in her post as well! See it all HERE.
DIY Stomp Rocket and Launcher
This Stomp Rocket project from Press Print Party is a bit more involved, so may be better for older kids, but is absolutely a BLAST. Once it’s built, you can expect hours more entertainment from it. Get instructions HERE.
Cosmic Craft Kit
For my craft area, I also set out a Kid Made Modern Cosmic Craft Kit. This kit is a great option if you want an all-in-one easy solution for your space craft needs! It includes TONS of craft materials for making aliens, UFOs, and more!
OTC Crafts
If you want some easy pre-made options, but would rather pick and choose your crafts, Oriental Trading has many space craft kit options!
No matter which of these crafts you choose for your Space Party, kids will definitely be “over the moon”!
