Summer is almost upon us, and I am really looking forward to the sunny, warm days. Daydreaming about this inspired me to come up with a sunny Sunflower-Themed First Birthday Party, using a cheery yellow and pink color scheme. This sweet party theme can easily be adapted for a birthday party for any age, or even a shower – but I think it’s particularly perfect for parents celebrating their little sunshine’s first year. Read on to see how I set it all up!
P.S. I got most of my supplies for this party from Oriental Trading – but if you prefer Amazon, check out my Amazon shop for similar or alternative supplies!

How to Set up a Sunflower-Themed Birthday Party
Balloon Backdrop
First, I created a pretty balloon garland out of pink and yellow balloons of various sizes. Some of the yellow balloons had sunflowers printed on them, but I added some extra sunflower goodness by also attaching faux sunflowers and paper cutouts throughout.
On the floor, I set up a stack of fillable giant white “BABY” blocks, which I filled with more yellow balloons. I embellished it with a few more sunflowers.
Dessert Table
Underneath the balloon garland, I hung a sunflower cutout garland. It provided the perfect extra backdrop for my sunny dessert table. I used a white table with a pink gingham runner, and clear acrylic stands which I filled with faux sunflowers. The desserts included cute sunflower-topped cupcakes, jars of yellow candy, and of course – a cake! I used a small “1” balloon and a faux flower as an easy backdrop for a pretty pastel pink cake.
Smash Cake & Party Favors
To the side of the dessert table, I set up a high chair for the guest of honor with her very own smash cake on it. I added a flower crown for her to wear for the inevitable photos! Behind this, I used my bright yellow grid wall to hang adorable sunflower sunglasses party favors underneath a wooden “Hello Sunshine’ sign.
Adult’s Table Setting
For my big table, I used pastel pink chargers with disposable sunflower plates and napkins. Matching sunflower paper packets held plastic pink utensils. Then, each place received a plastic wine glass and a precious little sunflower favor box filled with treats. Finally, I set a small sunflower floral arrangement next to each place setting.
Kid’s Table
The kids get their own table at this party. I used the same tableware, but instead of wine glasses I used matching paper cups. I also gave each child’s seat a flower crown, a cupcake, a pink striped bag of take-home treats, and a sunflower-shaped lollipop. For extra embellishment of this area, I spread felt sunflowers in the center of the table, added a faux sunflower to each seat, and made a small balloon bundle to sit behind the table.
