How to Create Witch Craft Boo Baskets for your Coven
When I discovered the easy way to create DIY terracotta paint, I just knew it would be the perfect texture for the cutest little ceramic cauldrons I found at Oriental Trading. The technique involves adding baking soda to paint to create a grainy texture that looks just like terracotta! The result was these perfect cauldron planters that I knew my daughter Parker would love to help her friends create.
Step 1 – Paint the Craft Cauldrons
First, we painted our cauldron “baskets” with a textured brown stone paint to give them a more earthy feel that really fit the theme.
Step 2 – Gather your Supplies
Next, we gathered our supplies for easy access. We used a table as our workspace, and spread out our materials from Oriental Trading on it.
I also set up a craft cart with additional supplies on it. I love using rolling craft carts for DIY projects and parties – it’s so easy to roll wherever you need it!
3 – Tie Your Paintbrushes
Next, we created groups of paintbrushes for each basket by tying their handles together with black ribbons.
4 – Fill the Paint Pots
I found a set of Terra Cotta-colored acrylic paints and used those to fill the mini paint pots for these craft cauldrons. Using the mini paint pots is cost effective, and each witch can have a variety of colors to choose for their planters!
We also provided paint palettes for combining the baking soda and paint mixtures.
5 – Add Soil and Baking Soda to Bags
We decided to use mini plastic cauldrons to hold bags of soil for the succulents, and baking soda for mixing with the paint. They’re the perfect size to hold these craft cauldron essentials! We used a measuring cup to fill the bags of soil and baking soda.
6 – Assemble the Craft Cauldrons
Once all the supplies are ready, it’s time to fill the Boo Baskets! We added black paper shred to the bottom of each of the cauldrons, and then arranged all of the craft materials and a succulent on top.
We included mini witch hats and witch broom pens for extra witchy boo basket treats.
7 – Add a Personalized Gift Tag
Then, to add a bit of personalization to the gifts, we created acrylic name tags for each witch in Parker’s coven, and tied them to the cauldron handles using a velvety black ribbon.
8 – Gift your Witch Craft Boo Baskets!
Now all that’s left to do is cast a friendship spell, gift your Witch Craft Boo Baskets, and let your friends brew up their own Halloween magic—one spooky succulent at a time!
