A trait of many New Zealanders is the desire to travel.  You’ll find many of us scattered across the world, adventuring or soaking in the cultures of others.  A running joke has always been “last one out of Auckland (largest airport) airport turn out the lights”.

I’ve been lucky enough to backpack around many countries doing just that.  One country that remains on my wish list to visit is Tibet.  Everything I have heard indicates the most welcoming of people and a gentle, simple culture.  Everything I have seen shows an untainted land with exotic scenery.  The purity and colors of the culture are so beautiful to me. They are the inspiration behind this free-spirited boho bridal shower.

I love using such a vibrant and cheerful color palette and the natural floral elements really give me that “zen” feeling. I used flowers down the center of the table in a mandala pattern. In the center sat a wishing tree.  This is inspired by the prayer trees in tibet.  Fabric wrapped trees with prayer flags hanging from the branches.

It is always important to me to ensure a wedding is full of thoughtful, personal details that are meaningful to  the new bride.  So, for the bridal shower I hung small notes from the tree for the brides friends and family to write notes to the bride.  Get the full DIY HERE.

A lot of the new hot-trends like bright poppy neon, crepe paper backdrops and llamas fit perfectly with the boho Tibetan aesthetic.  I paired these with vintage elements like fabric wrapped balls, serving dishes and the cutest blue stool for a unique, eclectic look.

One of my favorite details at this bridal shower, all the yarn wrapping! I really love the feel of Tibet this gave.  A modern interpretation of fabric wrapping. I couldn’t stop wrapping, even the chopsticks were wrapped.

The other was my modern interpretation of prayer flags.  Individual strips of crepe paper hanging from the ceiling.  They are several strips deep and give a gorgeous depth and texture to the backdrop.
