It’s no secret that FRIENDS is my favorite TV show (remember my FRIENDS Themed Friendsgiving Dinner Party?). When given the chance, I’m pretty sure I could style a FRIENDS themed party for any occasion. A really easy and fun one to go for though is a 30th Birthday Party! There’s an entire episode of the TV show revolving around all of the friends turning 30. I used that episode and the show in general to create an entertaining and modern FRIENDS birthday party that really pays homage to both the birthday girl and the show.
How to Set up a Fun FRIENDS Themed 30th Birthday Party
As an OTC blogger, I received compensation and/or products in exchange for my styling and crafting services. As always, all project ideas and any opinions expressed here are my own. For further information on our disclosure policy please check out our disclosure page.
Backdrop & Dessert Table
First, I replicated the banner from “The One Where They All Turn Thirty”, but replacing Rachel’s name with the name of the birthday girl. I surrounded that with a balloon garland in soft purple, yellow, blue and red colors as a more modern take on the colors of the umbrellas in the opening credits, and the famous door and frame from Monica’s apartment.
Underneath the backdrop, I set up my dessert table. I created a table cover with FRIENDS themed napkins, and placed a simple white cake in the center on a lavender cake stand. The cake topper consisted of painted umbrella favor containers with a “30” on the center umbrella (don’t forget to put some plastic wrap between the topper and the cake to keep it food safe). I covered the rest of the table with props from the show, and photos of the guest of honor in classic FRIENDS frames.
Table Setting
For my dinner table, I created a cute FRIENDS intro-inspired umbrella and fountain centerpiece. I added more photos of the birthday girl and her friends on either side, along with some additional FRIENDS and NY-themed props.
The place settings had octagonal lavender chargers layered with round black and white grid dinner plates and hexagonal yellow dessert plates for a 90s geometric feel. Each place also received a FRIENDS napkin, gold cutlery, and a wine glass with a FRIENDS TV show quote on it. In the center of the plates, I added name cards in Central Perk holders, and a celebratory fringe horn.
Drinks
When it came to the drink area, I wanted to include as many nods to the show as I could. I created a drink station with a bar cart decked out in FRIENDS props, snacks, drinks, and favors. Get all the details for this DIY FRIENDS Themed 30th Birthday Party Bar Cart HERE.
Activity
To keep guests entertained, I set up our version of the FRIENDS trivia game from the show that caused Monica and Rachel to lose their apartment to Chandler and Joey (…maybe keep your bets a bit smaller for this party…). This game is a great way to test everyone’s knowledge of each other in a fun way – it’s likely everyone will leave knowing each other better in the end.
Photo Booth
Finally, don’t let anyone leave without posing with the original Friends for photos. Giant FRIENDS stand ups are all you really need for this photo booth, but I added some fun elements to mine with write-on thought/speech bubble props and cardboard pizza props.
