Who remembers the fun and simple days of hanging out with friends at the roller rink? I wanted to recreate that groovy vibe for my kids by creating a Retro Rainbow Roller Skating Party. Especially because many of these rad retro things are coming back into style!
As an OTC blogger, I received compensation and/or products in exchange for my styling and crafting services. As always, all project ideas and any opinions expressed here are my own. For further information on our disclosure policy please check out our disclosure page.
How to Throw a Retro Roller Skate Party
Table Settings & Tote Bags
A key element to this retro roller skate party is, of course, rainbows everywhere! I used rainbow plates and cups to bring all of the colors to my place settings. Kids can even draw their own rainbows on the white paper table cover using the rainbow crayons I included at each seat. I also brought the rainbow and roller skate ideas together by creating these fun DIY Roller Skate Tote Bags, and hanging them on each child’s chair. Find out how to make them HERE.
Drink Station
No roller disco party would be complete without some throwback tunes, and even though we now have much smaller and more convenient ways to play the music, I wanted to make the party feel old school by including a fun boombox backdrop and a boombox cooler filled with classic drinks!
Disco Dessert Table
Another way to throwback to the days of roller discos is to hang shimmery foil fringe from the ceiling, and to use lots of disco balls as decor! I even combined the two by creating this totally tubular DIY Disco Ball Cake Stand to hold my rainbow roller skate cake. Get the details on how I created it HERE.
Roller Disco Decor
Finally, using actual wearable items to decorate really brings home the retro vibe of this party. A pair of old roller skates and spare wheels can create a fun and unique table runner. I used actual knee socks in fun candy colors to enhance the table runner, and included a pair of them, along with a scrunchie, at each place setting along with my DIY Roller Skate Place Cards. You can get a free place card printable and learn how to make them HERE.
Kids will love rolling into this Retro Rainbow Roller Skating Party as much as we used to love rolling around the skating rink. You can get all the details to create it on Fun365 at Oriental Trading. Everything you need to See It, Shop It and Make with the click of a button! I hope you enjoy all the DIY’s and ideas as much as I enjoyed creating them.
Happy Partying!
