Every year, my community gets together in the summer and fall to socialize and enjoy each other’s company. Last year, we had a Color Block Community Party in the summer, and a Fall Festival in the fall. This year, we focused our gathering on a more patriotic theme, and decked out our driveway and backyard with red, white, and blue! This set up is perfect for a 4th of July celebration.

How to Set up a Star-Spangled 4th of July Patriotic Block Party for your Community
Photo Booth
First, we set up a giant photo booth on our garage door, covered in stars and stripes. We used a balloon garland, red metallic fringe curtains, and a star-spangled plastic tablecloth to create it.
And of course, we couldn’t forget the America-themed photo booth props!
Food & Drinks
A BBQ is an essential all-American food option for Independence Day. We grilled burgers, and provided pretzels and veggie sticks for sides. I also used a large patriotic inflatable cooler to hold all sorts of drinks – something for everyone!
The food and drinks were, of course, served with red, white and blue plates, napkins, and utensils. We set them out in a vintage box for an easy and attractive display.
And, because it’s summer and the sun is shining – we needed continuous lemonade access. Details for how we created this DIY Lemonade Stand HERE!
Patriotic Block Party Activities
Simply getting to hang out with our neighbors provides plenty of entertainment, particularly after a more isolated year, but we wanted to add even more fun with patriotic block party activities! Plus – the kids need to stay entertained. One of the activities was surprisingly simple and effective – sidewalk chalk! It’s a tradition for us to provide sidewalk chalk for each of our community parties, so that everyone can contribute to a giant piece of community art!
In addition to the chalk walk, we set up a variety of lawn games. Nothing like a little competition to spice a party up!
For a calmer, less competitive activity, we set up crafting stations where guests could create their own patriotic arts and crafts.
Confetti poppers provide tons of exploding fun when it’s still too early for fireworks.
Finally, in order to get ready for the light show, we set up a light station. Guests could choose a variety of light-up options for when it got dark – sparklers, glow sticks, or star-shaped light wands!
Favors
In addition to their photo booth photos, we wanted to make sure everyone who visited our Patriotic Block Party got to take home more memorabilia from their time with us. So we set up a fun “Merch Stand”, where everyone could pack a pail of patriotic candy, and choose from tons of red, white, and blue merch to take home.
We provided personalized buckets for each family to hold all of their goodies. Don’t forget to check out our other tips for how to personalize a patriotic block party to make guests feel special, HERE.
Additionally, we set up a DIY Pin Trading Station where guests could find and trade patriotic pins for their personalized lanyards. Find instructions for how to create it and the lanyards HERE.

Happy 4th of July, from our community to yours!
