There is something about winter that feels particularly crisp and sleek. Perhaps it is the stark look of bright white snow. It could be the clean dark lines of barren tree branches and how they contrast with a white background. It feels clean, yet elegant, much like modern decor.
I wanted to bring this minimalistic style into a wedding reception space, but tempered by the charm of natural greenery. With the help of Oriental Trading, I styled a Modern Black and Green Winter Wedding that I think captures the beauty of both winter and the romance of weddings. Read on to find out how I did it!
A Grand Entrance
Set the scene as soon as guests walk in by creating a chic DIY Modern Black and Greenery Seating Chart. This seating chart is so easy to make and easily adapts to any size wedding. The fresh white font on the dark black background is balanced by the addition of simple mini wreaths on each panel, and an olive branch garland draped over both panels. Learn how to make your own seating chart HERE.
Simple and Stylish Table Setting
A deep black base makes all of the other elements in this modern minimalist table setting pop. I used black table cloths, plates, and napkins to create my base. Then, I added lush greenery down the table’s center, broken up periodically by white roses and silver candle holders. At each place, I set out silver cutlery, clear wine glasses, and a small white gift bag for each guest. Finally, I created DIY Black and Green Wreath Place Cards, which tied perfectly with the wreaths on my seating chart. Find the details for how to make these simple and sweet place cards HERE.
Modern Dessert Table and Greenery Confetti Toss
As the evening begins to wind down, there’s usually time for dessert before the bride and groom are sent off. I set up a dessert table similar in style to my reception tables, with a black tablecloth and candles, and green garlands winding across. I added small black favor boxes on either side of my simple yet sophisticated cake. Above the dessert table, I created a backdrop of wreaths that created a statement and also served as ties to the entrance and table setting.
Then, for each guest to toss as the bride and groom make their exit, I set up a DIY Modern Biodegradable Greenery Confetti Toss Station. This “confetti” is actually bits of greenery, which means it goes with the theme AND everyone can feel confident about not harming the planet as they toss.
