You all know I love color, but now and then I just love challenging myself to style parties using a more simple black and white look. Because Easter is traditionally one of the most colorful holidays, creating an Easter celebration without relying heavily on color was one of the toughest challenges yet! However, I’m thrilled with the way it turned out. Using a simplified color palette of black and white with minor pops of pastel color meant focusing more on bold patterns that really elevated this Black and White Easter Celebration and gave it a modern and unique look. Read on to get all of the details!
P.S. I got my supplies for this party at Oriental Trading, and you can too! If you’d like similar/alternative options, check out my Amazon Shop.
Two-toned Table
First, I folded a black and white checkered tablecloth into a table runner. To break up the black and white just a bit, I scattered small pastel eggs over the runner. Then, I added white ceramic vases and bowtied rabbits on each side of a fun DIY Black and White Easter Egg Centerpiece. Find out how to give your guests Happy Easter wishes by creating your own centerpiece HERE.
My place settings brought in more bold black and white patterns. I layered black and white chevron and geometric triangle plates in between a simple black plate and napkin to create balance. A few more pastel eggs and gold cutlery also helped to interrupt the black and white a bit. For drinks, I used matching chevron patterned paper cups, and simple plastic champagne flutes. Finally, next to each place setting I placed I black and white polka dotted favor box wrapped in pastel pink ribbon and topped with a tiny black bunny.
TIP: Keep the edges of the table around the runner uncovered or use a simple white table cover. A patterned tablecloth could be overwhelming and take away from the strong patterns in the place settings.
Decoration Station
Egg decorating is one of the most fun Easter activities! I set up an Easter Egg decoration station with a bit more checkered tablecloth, a chalkboard sign with a fun pun, and the cutest little fluffy bunny garland. There are so many ways to decorate Easter eggs, and when you aren’t using color, you are forced to get even more creative with patterns and textures. I set out all sorts of art supplies for guests to use to create their egg masterpieces. Then, to inspire my guests, I came up with 11 Modern Black and White Easter Egg ideas, and set them out on a tray as examples. You can check out all of those decorating ideas HERE.
TIP: Add some metallic gold eggs in with the white ones, for an extra dose of glam!
Fun Favor Baskets
I needed to find a way for guests to take their fragile creations home with them once the celebration was over, and I wanted it to go with the theme. That’s when I came up with the cutest easy DIY Black and White Easter Favor Baskets. I placed one for each guest on the side of the decoration station. Learn how to create them yourself HERE.
TIP: Fill the baskets with some spring green easter basket grass to add some color and to provide a soft layer of protection for the decorated eggs! For an extra tiny dose of color, add in a few more pastel eggs, making sure to leave room for the black and white ones, of course.
