Being shipwrecked may not seem like the most obvious theme for a wedding. However, once I began looking at the various seaside decor elements that could make up this theme, it became clear that a Softly Shipwrecked Wedding could be romantic, beautiful, and chic. Read on to see how I used a watercolor aesthetic, floaty fabrics, and rugged natural details to create this nautical themed wedding that feels anything but cheesy.

Reel Guests into the Reception

I wanted to hook guests with the theme as soon as they walked into the room. That’s why I created a DIY Nautical Seating Chart that incorporated fisherman’s netting, beautiful blue ombre seashells, and elegant florals. Find out how to create it HERE.

Tidal Table Settings

I used more fisherman’s netting, this time adding some natural cording, for my chair backs and for my table runner. Then, along the runner, I added various greens, blush florals, blue orbs reminiscent of sea glass, sea shells, and blue ombre table numbers wrapped in white cording. Finally, in the center of the table, I placed a piece of driftwood, adorned with sea greens, succulents, blush florals, sea sponges, and starfish.

The place settings stayed fairly simple with a clean blue and white color scheme. Plates with detailed edging and soft blue flowy napkins added elegance. Then, I added a metallic element to the place settings by using silver flatware, placing a silver chocolate fish favor on each person’s plate, and using a silver font on white seashells for place cards.

Salty Souvenirs

Finally, for a unique ocean-inspired wedding favor, I created DIY Infused Salts. These little bottles sat in a galvanized tray filled with sand, looking like they washed up on the beach. I then set the tray on a favor table covered with smoky gray chiffon and more nautical-themed items. These included a chic striped sailboat centerpiece and more driftwood. Behind the favor table, I hung more fisherman’s netting, and a sign telling guests to “Be Shore to Take a Favor”. You know I can’t resist a good pun!
